Peter McDougall - Managing Director

Peter McDougall has extensive leadership experience in military, business and community organisations. His military career spanned three decades serving in Australia and overseas in the ranks of Corporal to Colonel. Key postings were as Lieutenant and Captain with the Special Air Service Regiment on operations in Borneo and South Vietnam, Commanding Officer of the First Commando Regiment as Lieutenant Colonel, and Commandant Infantry Centre, one of the largest schools in the Australian Army as a Colonel. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 1989 Australia Day Honours List for outstanding service to the Army.

In 1990 Peter became a consultant to James Cook University leading a team to establish and manage the Staff Development Unit. Combining his own experience with extensive research into Leadership and Teamwork, Peter developed programs and methods that became the genesis of those employed in subsequent commercial programs in Australia and Indonesia. With modification and updating they form the basis of the programs used by The Leadership Academy today.

Peter is a member of Legacy and has also been involved with community organisations such as the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Crimestoppers and the Masters Games.




Tony Wass - Training Manager

Tony Wass has more than 35 years of leadership experience, including 29 years with the Australian Army in the ranks of Corporal to Major. During this time he led soldiers in both peace and on operational service. Tony also had the privilege of serving as senior adviser on other rank matters to both General Peter Cosgrove, former Chief of the Australian Defence Force, and Major General Peter Arnison, former Governor of Queensland. Tony's training experience is extensive, including basic induction through to career and promotional level both in Australia and in the Republic of Vanuatu.

Since leaving the military Tony has worked with Peter in training executives and staff in leadership and teambuilding in Australia and Indonesia. He has been the Training Manager of The Leadership Academy since its inception.

Tony has been involved in a number of community activities and served a two-year term as President of Townsville Legacy.




Linsey Plante - Associate Trainer and Facilitator

Linsey Plante has broad experience as a company director, has established and operated three of her own businesses, and is a consultant in professional development and workplace learning. She holds a Business Degree form the University of Southern Queensland and is a graduate of the Australian Management College (Mt Eliza). Linsey also holds a Masters Degree in Professional Development and Training from Deakin University.

Linsey's expertise covers workplace learning and development; mentoring and coaching; training needs analysis; and outplacement services. Her training specialisations and qualifications are in the areas of workplace training and assessing; communication skills; productivity management; teambuilding; and frontline management and leadership.

Linsey is also a valued trainer/facilitator with programs conducted by The Leadership Academy




John Dwyer AM - Associate and Consultant Trainer

John Dwyer's core skills encompass hands-on leadership training, business planning facilitation, emergency management planning, training facilitation in cross cultural environments and community enterprise management.

John's experience and appointments have ranged from SAS military service, Commanding Officer Australian Army Tropical Warfare School, elected Councillor in Queensland local government, emergency management training facilitator to NSW and QLD Rail and Power Authorities and Chairman Legacy Australia National Marketing Committee. He is also involved in "youth at risk" development programs and project management of a National Heritage site development.

John was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1996 for outstanding service to Army leadership training, was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for overseas study in 2000 and holds formal qualifications in training management, emergency planning and business enterprise development.

An accomplished public speaker and community contributor, John Dwyer possesses a strong record of achievements in both the Australian and Asia/Pacific environments.


Greg McMahon - Associate and Consultant Trainer

Greg has had extensive experience in mid-level and senior management positions within government and private enterprise, including line management of high level achievers across a wide variety of disciplines (engineers, economists, research and extension scientists, computer specialists, graphic artists, agribusiness and marketing professionals). His experience further included management of corporate support functions in scenario development and strategic planning, policy development and implementation, enterprise bargaining negotiations and performance management.

He has also been involved in the design, marketing and delivery of training and development programs and other professional support services across wide-ranging managerial, financial, legal and technical subject areas. He was head-hunted to manage the training of the 2500 security search personnel deployed by Defence for the Sydney Olympic Games.

Greg was a Foundation Board Member and honorary Executive Director (1999/2000) of the Weary Dunlop Centre for Ethics and Applied Management. He was State President (1996-1999) of The Association of Professional Engineers Scientists and Managers of Australia (APESMA), which has the largest remote learning MBA and graduate management programs in the Southern Hemisphere. Greg has been National Director for Whistleblowers Australia since 1997.
